The "diet" industry makes millions from those who yearn to be slimmer and healthier. Yet most people struggle not knowing how to reach their desired weight or to maintain it.
The "diet" industry continues to grow because the claims made and the weight lost isn't sustainable. Many people follow the diets, lose weight and then go back to the way of living and eating they had before the diet, not really understanding where they went wrong.
The truth is, the only way to lose weight is to change the behaviour and thinking that has led to the weight gain.
It's plain for all to see, thin people have different thoughts and behaviours than fat people. If you don't believe me spend some time watching fat and thin people, trust me they believe different things about food and hence behave differently towards it.
Take these 5 Steps and change those fat thoughts for thin ones and see your weight drop off:-
Step 1 - Get Conscious. In order to stop doing the behaviours that have led to the weight gain, you must become aware of what you are doing to gain the weight. Gaining excessive weight is an unconscious decision, based on limiting beliefs about yourself.
Keep a food diary. Every time you eat note the following:- date, time, what you are eating, where you are, with whom, what you thought and felt while you were eating and your feelings after eating. Use this information to inform your choices and decisions as you progress.
Step 2 - Get Committed. Make a decision to stop focusing on your excessive weight. You are where you are and with small steps you can become the weight you want to be. If you are focusing on being fat it means you are thinking fat thoughts. Instead think thin thoughts such as, who will you be when you are the weight you want to be? What will you be doing? Accept and love your body as it is NOW. Day dream and act as if you have the body you want.
Use this affirmation. "I am willing to love and accept myself just the way I am now!"
Write the weight you want to be on a label and put it on the bathroom scales so it's what you see when you weigh yourself.
Step 3 - Get Curious. Make a decision to see yourself on a journey of discovery where you are learning new stuff about yourself. Notice how your beliefs and attitudes towards food have limited you and led to weight gain and determine to change them to empowering beliefs that will bring you the shape and weight you desire. Most people are overweight because they are feeding their emotions. Weight gain is caused from overeating - eating for reasons other than hunger.
Write down how you feel before you turn to food.
Do you feel any of these emotions and use them as a reason to eat:- lonely, overwhelmed, bored, angry, comfort, guilt.
Decide to use these emotions as a signal. What is the feeling really about? Our feelings are sending us information about what we are thinking about. Rather than stuffing them with food until the next time, be curious about what the feeling is telling you about how you see life and how you are relating to yourself.
Step 4 - Be Honest. Ask yourself, what do you get to avoid doing or being by overeating and unhappy with your weight?
Write down your thoughts. When did the weight gain start? What do you think about your body? What isn't happening in your life because you're not the weight you think you want to be?
You know you best, what has worked in the past? Take all the best bits and put together your life plan for maintaining and loving your body.
Step 5 - Believe in Yourself. Believe in your ability to make healthy choices for the right reasons. You're worth it, whatever anyone has said, whatever you have believed in the past, know now that you deserve a sexy vibrant, beautiful body that you are proud of.
Like a old worn out coat, you can shrug off the excess weight and feel free to enjoy life on your own terms.
You've learnt how to gain weight and probably some ways of losing it too, so now learn how to maintain the weight you want by getting clear about your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
